Euro 2024: France takes decision on Deschamps’ status after Spain defeat

French Football Federation, FFF, President, Philippe Diallo has confirmed that Didier Deschamps will continue as head coach of the national team.

Deschamps’ future has become the subject of speculation following Les Bleus’ defeat to Spain.

The 2018 World Cup winners gave up a one-goal lead to lose 2-1 in the Euro 2024 semi-final on Tuesday night.

With France failing to win yet another major competition despite being one of the pre-tournament favourites, Deschamps’ performance as France’s head coach has been questioned.

However, Diallo has said the 55-year-old will continue at least until the end of his contract in 2026.

Speaking to L’Equipe, Diallo said, “I don’t see any reason to question his contract.

“The past results speak in his favour and the objectives have been achieved. Didier will continue his mission.

“We will talk together in the coming days to analyse in more depth what we lacked during this semi-final and what would have allowed us to go higher.”
