Former Netherlands striker, Ruud van Nistelrooy, has emerged as the bookmakers’ favourite to become the new Manchester United manager.
The ex-England manager, Gareth Southgate, has previously been the favourite after he stepped down from the role in July.
However, he has now been leapfrogged this week by current United assistant manager, Van Nistelrooy.
Van Nistelrooy is the best-backed at 2/1 to be the next boss at Old Trafford.
This is thanks to fresh reports claiming that he is “waiting to take over” from his fellow Dutchman, Erik ten Hag.
Southgate has widened slightly to a 5/2 second-favourite, while former Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel, is third-favourite at 6/1.
Ten Hag is walking a tightrope at United, following a 3-0 thrashing at home to Tottenham Hotspur.
He is believed to have been given two games – against FC Porto and Aston Villa – to save his job this week.
