Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag has explained why he stormed onto the touchline to berate Anthony Martial during their 1-0 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday.
Martial struggled to make an impact at St James’ Park and was replaced in the second half by Rasmus Hojlund after just 61 minutes.
The Frenchman is having a poor season, having scored only one goal and provided one assist in 12 Premier League fixtures.
Ten Hag was seen screaming at Martial during the Newcastle game, with the player arguing back at the Dutchman.
When asked about the incident after the game, Ten Hag said: “It’s not about Antony Martial. It’s about the team. I tried to energise the team, to get a reaction from the team.
“In this moment, we had a tough period. When you are coaching you are a little bit more aggressive and that is normal.”
