EPL: Ten Hag admits his failure in January

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has said it is “not a secret” that he wanted to bring in a striker in January.

Ten Hag, speaking to reporters on Friday, admitted he might have to be “creative” when it comes to solving their lack of depth upfront.

United have lost Anthony Martial for over two months with a groin problem, leaving Rasmus Højlund as the only senior striker in his squad.

However, the Red Devils have been restrained by Financial Fair Play, FFP, in their bid to sign a forward in the winter window.

Ten Hag said: “I think it’s not a secret that I wanted a striker extra because, with the injury to Martial, we don’t really have back-up there.

“It was not possible because we have to match the FFP rules. We have Omari [Forson], we have Amad Diallo, of course, we have [Marcus] Rashford, who can play there. The rest of the positions are occupied, but we have to be a little bit creative in the No. 9 position.”
