Manchester United are set to be without Luke Shaw for their first three Premier League fixtures.
In a statement on Tuesday night, United confirmed that Shaw was struggling with a calf injury.
The left-back picked up the injury during training.
Shaw has not played for United since February but played some part as England reached the Euro 2024 final.
The 29-year-old is now hoping to return after the first international break of the season in September.
“Luke Shaw will miss the opening games of the Premier League season due to a calf injury sustained at the start of pre-season training,” read a club statement.
“He is working hard on his rehabilitation with a view to being available after the first international break.”
