Sporting Lisbon have confirmed that Manchester United have indicated interest in paying the 10 million euro release clause in manager Ruben Amorim’s contract.
The Portuguese club has informed the country’s financial regulator about the negotiations.
Amorim is expected to be in charge when Sporting play a Taca da Liga tie against Nacional at Estadio Jose Alvalade on Tuesday night.
But it could be the 39-year-old’s last game with the team.
Due to their listing on the stock market, Sporting are obliged to inform Portugal’s financial regulator, the CMVM, of any significant impact on the club’s business.
The statement to the CMVM read: “Sporting comes, under the terms and for the purpose of fulfilling the information obligation arising from the provisions of Article 17 of Regulation (EU) No. 596/2014, of the European Parliament and of the Council of April 16, inform the market in the following terms: “1.
