Jamie Carragher, a Liverpool legend, didn’t hold back in his criticism of Manchester United’s Casemiro following his team’s 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace.
Deployed as a makeshift center-back and wearing the captain’s armband in Bruno Fernandes’ absence, Casemiro endured a nightmare performance, directly involved in two of Palace’s goals.
Carragher, speaking on Monday Night Football, suggested that Casemiro should consider retiring soon, urging him to recognize his declining form and consider alternatives like moving to the MLS or Saudi league.
He emphasized Casemiro’s status as a once-great midfielder, highlighting his pivotal role alongside players like Kroos and Modric, but indicating that his time at the top level may be coming to an end.
Carragher said: “I said at half-time that he had to bring Casemiro off.
“I know he’s got kids on the bench but I think Casemiro, I am being deadly serious, should know himself tonight as an experienced player, that he should only have another three games at the top level, the next two league games and the cup final, and thinking I need to go the MLS or Saudi.
“I am being deadly serious. His agent or the people around him need to tell him it has to stop. We are watching one of the greats in modern times, played in one of the best midfielders in modern time – him holding Kross and Modric on either side, who could easily go up against the Barcelona midfield we all know and loved,” he added.
