The management of Shooting Stars have rubbished reports that players and officials of Enyimba were held hostage after Sunday’s matchday 19 encounter.
According to the media officer of the Oluyole Warriors, Tosin Omojola, claims in some reports that the visitors were not allowed to leave the stadium complex after the match were untrue.
Enyimba defeated Shooting Stars 2-1 at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
He said, “There is no iota of truth in the reports of Enyimba players and officials being held hostage,” he stated in a press release.
“After the encounter, there were agitations by some fans about the officiating of the game and in order not to take a risk, the management of the stadium, the Oyo State FA and the 3SC management had to make sure that exit routes were cleared.
“How on earth would you say players and officials of a team who were celebrating their victory inside the dressing room were held hostage?
“There was a need to ensure that nothing untowards happened to both the match officials and the visiting team, so we had to make sure that exit routes were cleared before allowing them to leave.
“Even when they were eventually filling out, our fans hailed them on their way to their bus and even when their bus was leaving the arena, so how come claims that they were held hostage?”
