Environmental Management: Imo govt ends illegal mining, warns operators

In protecting the environment from ecological challenges, the Imo State Government has put an end to illegal mining operations in the State mostly, around the Umukoto -Nekede-Ihiagwa -FUTO axis leading to the bank of Nworie and Otamiri Rivers.

The Commissioner for Industries, Mining and Solid Minerals Ernest Ibejiako gave the order while addressing dredgers at the site.

He gave them two days to remove their equipment and dismantle all their working tools from the area, warning that if anyone was found mining along the places, they would be arrested and prosecuted and their equipment confiscated.

The Commissioner directed that every operator should go and register with the ministry to be relocated to a more conducive area for close and regular supervision.

Ibejiako revealed that indiscriminate mining activities are responsible for the serious ecological problem being witnessed in the state.
