Eleme tanker explosion: We evacuated four bodies from the scene – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Rivers State Command, says it recovered four dead bodies from the scene of the fire incident along the Eleme-axis of the East-West Road in Rivers State.

The Sector Commander of the state command, Corps Commander Christopher Kuje, also revealed that the remains of the diseased have been taken to the Military Hospital.

Speaking in an interview with DAILY POST, Kuje stated that 60 vehicles were affected by the fire incident.

Kuje said, “Actually, the number of people killed that we met on ground which we were able to evacuate to military hospital is four.

“And then the number of vehicles that were affected is sixty.

“These ones I’m talking about were burnt beyond recognition. We had to use body bags to carry them.

“It’s body bag that we used in carrying them to the hospital, because they were burnt beyond recognition.

“If there was any body, we could have seen it. So those are the ones we met on ground. I wouldn’t want to talk on something that we did not see.

“The ones we saw on ground is what I’m talking about. That is the number we met and that is the number we evacuated to military hospital in Port Harcourt.”

He added that the FRSC has commenced the evacuation of the vehicles involved in the fire incident, to clear the traffic caused by the inferno.

”We succeeded in resolving the issue by first diverting traffic for those who could not wait for us to clear the road through Oyigbo, the alternative route.

“Apart from that, we were able to meet Indorama. We got their crane and then we moved all the heavy duty trucks and tankers from the road.

“Right now we also got trucks where we are removing the small vehicles and then taking them to a safe place at Eliozu.”
