EKSUTH ATTACK: Nurses suspend strike, demand improved security

The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Ekiti State chapter, has appealed to the government to prevent incessant attacks on nurses and other health workers.

This is contained in a statement jointly signed by the chairman of the Association, Mr. Oladimeji Samuel-Adegbuyi, the Secretary, Mrs. Olabisi Ayenioye and the PRO, Mrs. Odunayo Olufunmilayo.

The Association was reacting to the Monday attack on some nurses and health workers by some suspected hoodlums who also stole a corpse from the hospital.

According to the statement, the union has called off the strike earlier declared after the intervention of government and various leaders of the labour force in the state.

The statement reads: ”Having appealed to our members to resume duty following the intervention of the State NLC, JNC, SSA Labour Matter and other stakeholders, we appeal to the government to take proactive steps and put in place legal and security frameworks to prevent incessant attack on nurses and other health workers while carrying out their legitimate duties.
