Ekiti LG officials urged to demonstrate high standard of morality in govt business

Ekiti State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Folorunso Olabode has called on public officers in the local government system in the state to always demonstrate the highest standards of integrity and transparency in the discharge of their duties.

The Commissioner made the call in Ado-Ekiti while declaring open a one-day sensitization workshop organised for local government political office holders and Directors of Administration on Code of Conduct for public officers in Nigeria.

Olabode charged participants to reflect the values of honesty, accountability and ethical conduct after the training, emphasising that the code of conduct serves as a guiding light and the importance of avoiding conflicts of interest, practising fairness & impartiality and the protection of resources entrusted.

He explained that transparency in asset declaration also safeguards against corruption signifying that no one is above the law.

He charged the Directors of Administration to go back and train others in their various Councils noting that documentation is powerful and could be taken against someone in the future.

The lead Facilitator who is also the Acting State Director at the Code of Conduct Bureau, Solomon Omobolade in his lecture, explained what is expected of a public servant, the ethics and behaviours of an employee.

He noted that ensuring compliance and enforcing the needful in the discharge of duties are some of the guidelines of the Code of Conduct.

Responding on behalf of other Council Chairman, the Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) Oluwasegun Ojo lauded the state government for organizing the forum as participants have learnt a lot at the one-day programme

He promised on behalf of other Council Chairmen to maintain a high standard of public morality in the conduct of government business and to ensure that their actions and behaviour as public officers conform to the highest standards of public morality and accountability.
