… As Upscaling Workshop Ends in Uyo
… Gov Umo Eno Receives Applause for Educational Reforms
Following Gov Umo Eno’s drive to develop education in Akwa Ibom State by facilitating an upscaling workshop for Principals of public secondary schools in the state, stakeholders in the sector including the school administrators have committed to greater productivity quotient in public secondary schools in Akwa Ibom through global best practices in administration of schools within their purview.
At the end of the two-day workshop in Uyo, Saturday February 24, the participants who were highly appreciative of Gov Eno, admitted that the value gotten from the robust engagements and knowledge sharing sessions have propelled them to a new level of renewed commitment as direct implementers of government policies.
According to the state Chairman of ANCOPPS, Mr Stephen Akpabio, “we have been really impacted by this workshop and in all sincerity, we will be returning to our schools as better Principals and leaders. This workshop has opened our eyes to new ways to go about our job. There is no way our schools won’t perform better as a result of this engagement.”
“Now that the London model which is effective has been brought to Akwa Ibom, there is no doubt that in a matter of time, education in Akwa Ibom will become as good as it is in London.”
“We thank the state government for making this workshop possible. Gov Umo Eno has shown us real commitment to develop education. This is an impressive move.”
The resource person, David Bromfield, the Senior Education Advisor in Southwark Council, London, who also commended the Governor for what he described as “sincerity in commitment”, took time to engage the principals on themes in Leadership in Education, Curriculum Development and Inspection as well as a peer review session on policy development and action plan.
He took time to share education administration experience in London and shared thoughts together with the principals on ways to adopt and domesticate educational models that work at the basics and secondary levels in UK, while agreeing on modalities to maintain an inter-agency relationship across bilateral lines as part of the recent Akwa Ibom – United Kingdom relations instituted by Gov Eno and the Mayor of London Borough of Southwark, Michael Situ.
At the end of the workshop, the state Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet, reiterated the Governor’s interest in growing the state through educational development, holding that public secondary school Principals and teachers are key players in the line of policy implementation and will remain priority in the welfare plan of the Umo Eno led administration.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ini Ememobong, noted that the workshop is a step to opening many vistas of development in the education sector of the state and that more human resources programmes will be introduced to equip Principals and teachers to stay up with contemporary trends in scholarship.
The Southwark Council Education Advisor is in the state alongside the Mayor of Southwark on an official visit arising from an earlier commitment to institute an educational exchange programme.
