DSS DG, Bichi vows to dismantle terrorism financial network

The Director-General of the Department of State Services, DSS, Yusuf Bichi, has vowed to dismantle the financial network of terrorism.

Bichi said dismantling the financial network would require a comprehensive and coordinated response.

He spoke at the opening session of a five-day workshop organised by the Inter Governmental Action Group Against Money Laundering in West Africa, GIABA.

Represented by A.S. Adeleke, Bichi said terrorist groups rely on funds to recruit, train, and equip their foot soldiers.

He said dismantling the financial network of terrorists required close cooperation and coordination among law enforcement agencies, financial institutions, civil society organisations and the international regulatory community at large.

“At the heart of our effort to counter terrorism lies the need to disrupt and dismantle the financial network that enables its operation.

“Terrorist organisations rely on a steady flow of funds to recruit, train and equip their operatives to propagate their extremism ideology and carry out their heinous acts of violence.

“By targeting their financial lifelines, we can undermine their capacities to function. However, combating terrorism financing is not a task that only one agency of government can undertake,” he said.
