Drug abuse fueling insecurity – Yobe monarch laments

The Emir of Fika and Chairman of Yobe State Council of Chiefs, Dr. Muhammadu Abali Ibn Muhammadu Idrissa, said drug abuse is one of the tools fueling the security challenges in the state.

The emir stated this while playing host to members of the correspondents’ chapel in his palace in Potiskum town.

He said the recent attack on Gurjaje community in Fika Local Government Area of the state, which resulted in the killing of one person and destroying over 100 houses, was a confirmation of a link between drug abuse and the attack.

According to him, 60 per cent of the people in the affected areas are youths.

He urged the state government and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, to come up with strategic plans that would nip in the bud the use of illicit drugs.

He also called on the government to provide development in the affected areas, stressing that there is a lot of economic hardship in the country.
