Delta: Court remands man in prison for allegedly defiling girlfriend’s two-year-old daughter

A Delta State High Court sitting in Otu-Jeremi in Ughelli South Local Government Area has ordered the remand of Mr Okiemute Kasia in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Okere, Warri, for allegedly defiling his girlfriend’s two-year-old daughter (name withheld).

The court, presided over by Hon. Justice A. A. Onojovwo, ordered the remand pending trial based on the evidence available.

The suspect was arraigned by the police on charges of alleged defilement, DAILY POST reports.

In a statement today, a human rights group, Initiative for Social Rights Concerns and Advancement (ISRCA), also known as “No Justice, No Peace,” led by National Coordinator Comrade Derrick Oritsematisan Agberen, stated that the suspect’s identity would be withheld from the public until he is either convicted or acquitted by the court.

The group expressed gratitude to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Divisional Crime Officer (DCO 1) of the Otu-Jeremi Division, and the Ughelli Area Command for their efforts in seeking justice for the young victim.

It is recalled that on October 10, 2024, ISRCA raised the alarm on its Facebook page regarding the incident, alleging that the child was seriously harmed by the suspect.

The group, led by its National Coordinator, Comrade (Amb.) Derrick Oritsematisan Agberen, immediately acted to ensure the suspect’s arrest by the Otu-Jeremi Police Division before his case was transferred to the Ughelli Area Command.
