Declare state of emergency on southern roads now – Coalition tells Tinubu

The Coalition of Southern Groups, CSG, has called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately declare a state of emergency on all federal roads in the southern part of the country.

The coalition made this call at its maiden media interface on Thursday in Abuja, canvassing a law that would force all public officials to use the roads for all local trips.

Chairman of the coalition and a former Commissioner in Imo state, Prof. Vitalis Orikeze Ajumbe, while interacting with newsmen, alongside the coalition’s Secretary, Comrade Bello Osaretin, said it has become a nightmare for people of the South-South, South-East and South-West to access the nation’s capital, Abuja, and other states within the region.

“The Coalition of Southern Groups CSG calls on the federal government to, as a matter of urgent national importance and concern, declare a state of emergency on all the federal roads in the Southern part of Nigeria.

“That the sordid state of the roads is yearning for attention and long overdue for total repairs and overhaul. It is on record that the Southern part of the country produces the liquid gold that sustains the economic well-being of Nigeria and these roads have been left unrepaired for decades,” he said.
