C’River Govt urges Army Commander to step up action against insecurity

The Cross River State Government has called on the Commander of 13 Brigade Nigerian Army, Calabar, Major General Everest Okoro, to bring his zest and expertise to bear in combating the increasing menace of kidnappings, cultism and armed robbery in the state.

Deputy Governor of the state, Peter Odey, gave the charge on Friday when Okoro came to notify him of his elevation to the rank of Major-General.

The deputy governor reiterated that the emerging security challenges in parts of the state were worrisome, unparalleled and needed security agencies to intensify their approaches.

Odey reiterated the state government’s continued support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

Okoro was amongst the 46 newly promoted Major Generals of the Nigerian Army.

While congratulating him on his promotion, Odey said, “Your new status is clearly the direct result of professionalism rather than an accident of luck. Indeed, you stand out as the proverbial goldfish that cannot be hidden.”
