Court remands scavengers for allegedly stealing EKEDC cables

A Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday remanded two scavengers at Awarjigoh Correctional Centre, for allegedly stealing an electrical cable belonging to an electricity distribution company.

Chief Magistrate A. J. Aina, remanded the two scavengers, Habibu Nuru, 29 and Kabiru Yahaya, 22, after they pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp Edet Ekpo, had earlier informed the court that the defendants committed the offences on Nov.16, at 12.35 a.m, at Gbaji-Yeke Community, at Seme Border, Badagry, Lagos.

The prosecutor said the defendants conspired and stole an electrical cable belonging to Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC).

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 411 and 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Aina adjourned the case until Dec.12 for mention.
