Copa America 2024: Brazil coach names who to blame after quarter-final exit

Brazil head coach, Dorival Junior, has taken “full responsibility” for their 2024 Copa América quarter-final exit.

The Selecao lost to 10-man Uruguay 4-2 in a penalty shootout on Saturday.

“I do have to acknowledge that these weren’t the expected results, and I take full responsibility for them.

“But I do think as well that this team has great room to grow and evolve and improve,” Dorival told reporters.

The game finished 0-0 after regulation, as Brazil failed to score despite Uruguay’s Nahitan Nandez seeing red in the 74th minute.

Éder Militão and Douglas Luiz both failed to convert their kicks during the shoot-out, while Alisson Becker denied Uruguay defender José María Giménez.

Manuel Ugarte converted the winning spot-kick to send Uruguay through.

Brazil, who were finalists (2021) and champions (2019), only won one game during the group stage.
