The Yobe State Government has approved the establishment of three weather stations to enable it fight the effects of climate change.
The Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Abdullahi Bego disclosed while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held on Thursday.
“The Council also approved the establishment of three weather stations in Damaturu, Machina and Gulani LGAs to help with climate and agricultural issues at the cost of N189.9 million,” Bego said.
On health, the commissioner said the Local Government Area Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge was launched with the hope of improving Primary Health Care at the grassroots level.
“The LGA PHC Leadership Challenge was launched and is being operated by UNICEF with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and oversight by the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency.
“The LGA PHC Leadership Challenge is just one of 12 indicators for an award that could come to the state among all the 36 states of the federation if LGAs adhere to specific activity indicators aimed at improving Primary Health Care at the grassroots level”, he said.
According to the Information Commissioner, the Council also approved the recommendation that monetary award be given to the best performing local government at the zonal level as well as at the overall state level.
Presided over by the State Deputy Governor, this was the first State Executive Council meeting held in 2024.
