Chukwuemeka leaves England camp, returns to Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder, Carney Chukwuemeka has left the England U21 squad and returned to the club sooner than expected.

Chelsea; in a message on their official website on Monday said the player returned early to work on his fitness at Cobham.

Chukwuemeka, who is eligible to play for England, Austria and Nigeria at senior level, was handed his first England U21 call-up for a pair of 2025 European Championship qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Luxembourg.

England U21 coach Lee Carsley did not name the player in the gameday squad for the 5-1 win over Azerbaijan on Friday, a game that saw his Chelsea teammate, Noni Madueke net his fourth goal in the qualifiers.

Chukwuemeka joined Chelsea from Aston Villa last summer but has struggled with injuries for most of the campaign.

The Blues have a date with Burnley at Stamford Bridge immediately after the international break.
