Call for Fubara’s impeachment invitation to anarchy – PDP Reps caucus warns

People Democratic Party, PDP, caucus in the House of Representatives has warned that the protracted crisis in Rivers State House of Assembly preluding a call for the impeachment of Governor Siminalaya Fubara is an invitation to anarchy.

Operating under the aegis of G60, the opposition lawmakers led by Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, in a statement sent to DAILY POST in Abuja, Thursday, described the move as ‘laughable, ridiculous and nonsensical.’

He said the 27 lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, a platform they were elected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, have been sacked and ceased to exist, particularly as their seat have been declared vacant in consonance with the law.

The lawmakers insisted that “there are no 27 members of Rivers House of Assembly.”

The statement said: “The House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, was not recognised by law, hence, they have no legal backing to carry out legislative activities.

“As long as the law is concerned, those 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly are no more lawmakers since their seats have been declared vacant.”

The opposition lawmakers in the lower legislative Chamber expressed dismay, saying the Rivers Assembly members were hell bent on attempting to stoke a crisis by pursuing a selfish agenda rather than committing to the advancement of the State.

They urged the governor of Rivers State to commence prosecution against the sacked lawmakers using the Magistrate Court by arraigning them for impersonation in order to restore sanity.

“They can go as usual as they do and sit in a two-bedroom in Emohua or Abuja, receive some little stipends and say they are impeaching the Governor.

“The so-called laws they amended who have implemented it, governance is done on the basis of constitutionalism, your seat is vacant, you’re supposed to go through an election,” he added.
