BIRS partners Operation Whirl Stroke to stamp out illegal checkpoints

Benue State Internal Revenue Service, BIRS, is to collaborate with Operation Whirlstroke to wipe out all illegal checkpoints across the state.

The Acting Executive Chairman of BIRS, Mr Emmanuel Agema disclosed this when he led the management team of BIRS on a courtesy visit to the Commander, Operation Whirlstroke, Major General Sunday Igbinomwanhia in his office.

Agema solicited support from the Command for the provision of security personnel who would work with the BIRS team to stop the activities of the illegal checkpoint operators in the state.

Mr Agema said this creates a safe place for the people of Benue State and an enabling environment for smooth business transactions.

The Acting Executive Chairman, BIRS, through his Media Assistant, Jacinta Bernard, noted that the activities of the hoodlums have prevented foreign investors from investing in the state.

He said this has caused untold hardship, pain and suffering to the people, stressing that it has affected revenue generation.

Mr Agema lauded the Commanding Officer for giving them an audience, he, however, observed with dismay the dismantling of the BIRS checkpoint at Katsina-Ala town by the Officers of the Command, explaining that the service has 16 monitoring and inspection points across the state with each staff wearing BIRS customized jackets.

Responding on behalf of the Commanding Officer, General Abubakar, commended the team for the visit and pledged the support of the Command to the tax agency in eradicating illegal roadblocks in Benue State
