Former Senior Special Assistant to former Governor Samuel Ortom on New Media, Paul Tion, has declared his bid to contest for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship position of Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State.
Tion made the declaration on Tuesday at the Makurdi Local Government secretariat of the party in Makurdi.
Speaking at the event, he said he would carry all party members along so everyone could have a sense of belonging.
“If I am given the privilege to serve, I will use my experience with those who will be working with me to give the party a new lease.”
“I will be tapping into the wealth of experience of key stakeholders who have served the party in the past to move the party to greater heights.”
He expressed gratitude to the leaders of the PDP who have kept the party together in victory and in defeat and promised to build on their positive legacies.
“As a party in opposition, the PDP is going through some challenges, but I must commend those who held forth before this time.
“At this time, as a party in opposition, the PDP needs somebody who is competent to serve with dignity and diligence, and I fit the bill.
“I will help to strengthen the party at this level if given the mandate because I have learned the ropes through the experience I had in the various political appointments I held under our great party.”
In his remarks, the outgoing Makurdi Local Government Chairman of the PDP, Alh. Yunusa Garuba, said his EXCO would give the aspirant maximum support and urged him to continue his consultations with stakeholders.
