Benue Governor swears-in 21 LG Caretaker Committee Chairmen

Twenty-one Local Government Caretaker Chairmen have been sworn into office by Governor Hyacinth Alia.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Monday in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Governor Alia while addressing the newly sworn-in caretaker chairmen said with their appointment, his administration has demonstrated determination to re-inject vibrancy in the administration of the local government system.

He said, “your selection as caretaker committee chairman is based on your contributions to the development of the state and the country as a whole.”

He added that local government being among the three tiers of government, is critical to the operation of his administration as it plays a major role in the provision of social services to the people.

“I urge you to work with relevant stakeholders for the smooth running of your councils. I assure you that the present administration under my care would ensure poverty reduction through various schemes.” Alia said.

Governor Alia urged the newly sworn-in Chairmen and members of the Interim Council, to embrace this opportunity to lead with integrity, transparency and fairness.

Speaking on behalf of the appointees, the Konshisha Local Government Caretaker Chairman, Philip Achua pledged their support to the governor for the success of his administration.

He said they would adhere to the dos and don’ts as stipulated in the Constitution.

He added that the Chairmen would ensure the grassroots feel the impact of the seven-point agenda while calling for teamwork from the masses to ensure they succeeded in the local government.
