Benin airport attack: Oshiomhole charges IGP to arrest killers of Inspector Onu

Former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, has urged Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to consider the killing of Inspector Onu Akor by suspected sponsored political thugs at Benin Airport as a national assignment.

DAILY POST reports that Adams Oshiomhole made the call at the weekend in Benin City.

Oshiomhole, who also called on the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, to defend the integrity of his uniform, noted that the late police officer was killed while on lawful duty.

DAILY POST recalls that last Thursday, suspected thugs attacked reinstated deputy governor of the state, Philip Shaibu, and Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the September 21 election, leading to the death of one of his police aides.

Oshiomhole, who now represents Edo North senatorial district at the National Assembly, charged police authorities to produce the killers of Inspector Onu.

He, however, vowed to ensure that the National Assembly investigates the death and that the investigation is not messed up.

According to him: “The Commissioner of Police in Edo State should defend the integrity of his uniform. And I also want to call on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to consider the killing in broad daylight of one of his officers who was on lawful duty as a national assignment.

“I will ensure that the investigation into the killing of Inspector Onu is not messed up by the police, the same way they messed up the killing of my personal secretary, the late Olaitan Oyerinde, when I was governor of the state.”

Oshiomhole called on the Inspector-General of Police to disband the Edo State Security Network, ESSN, and Public Works Volunteers, PUWOV, noting that they have become a tool for oppression in the hands of the state government.
