Bauchi govt to crack down on unregistered private schools

The Bauchi State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Jamila Muhammad Dahiru, has expressed concern over the proliferation of unregistered private schools in the state, vowing that measures will be taken to address the issue.

She noted that the total count of registered schools in the state, standing at 1,102, is considerably low.

Dahiru further directed that private schools should henceforth, operate five kilometres away from one another for effective service delivery.

The directives were issued during a meeting with private school proprietors, held at Government Comprehensive Day Secondary School, Bauchi on Thursday.

DAILY POST reports that the meeting was aimed at tackling challenges and enhancing educational standards in the state.

Acknowledging the vital role of private schools in complementing the educational landscape, Dahiru called for collaboration with her ministry to achieve educational objectives.

She urged proprietors to fulfil their financial obligations promptly and adhere to established rules and regulations governing their operations.

In their separate responses, the proprietors of Blue Bird Elementary School, Hajiya Binta Faruq and her counterpart at Havard International School, Bauchi, Mr. Losa Augustine Abiodun, said some of the challenges facing their smooth operations include non-payment of school fees by parents and guardians and lack of synergy between them and the government in the area of academic calendars.
