Bauchi governor reaffirms support for independent judiciary

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has pledged to uphold the independence of the judiciary.

The governor assured that his administration would not interfere in judicial matters.

He stressed that he has never interfered in the activities of the judiciary or the determination of cases.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of six High Court judges and five Khadis of the Shari’a Court of Appeal, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering an impartial and obstacle-free operational environment for the judiciary.

He underscored the importance of judicial independence and his ongoing efforts to support the judiciary since taking office in 2019.

He said he will always give priority and attention to the needs of the judiciary, adding that he has since made a provision for befitting official vehicles and other requirements for the judges.

Mohammed stated further that with the development, the judiciary has no excuse for delaying cases in courts, as “justice delayed is justice denied.”

Commending the State Chief Judge, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, for her resolve, ingenuity, and future-oriented mindset, Mohammed pledged to make her work and that of the other judicial officers easier.

He told the gathering of his administration’s keenness to do anything humanly possible within the limited resources to ensure collaboration and interaction to decongest prisons.

In her remark, the Bauchi State Chief Judge, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, expressed her gratitude to the governor for the confidence reposed in the new judges.

She assured him of the judiciary’s commitment to upholding justice and human rights.

Aliyu bin Umar, who gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the newly appointed judges, expressed their appreciation to the governor for the opportunity to serve the state, and promised that they would discharge their duties with integrity and dedication.
