Ban on Cross-Dressing Movies: Aisha Yesufu slams Kano govt

Aisha Yesufu, a popular Nigerian activist, has slammed the Kano State Government over the move to ban movies promoting cross-dressing in the State.

DAILY POST reports that the State Government, while banning films that depict crossing-dress, also warned against those with pictures of thuggery.

The development followed concerns raised by the public about certain films promoting deviant behaviour among youths in the state.

The ban was announced on Wednesday by the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Censorship Board, Abba El-Mustapha,
during a briefing with journalists after a meeting between the board’s management and various stakeholders from the Kannywood industry.

However, Aisha Yesufu, while mentioning a popular crossdresser, Bobrisky in her reaction, noted that Kano has been the home of crossdressers even before the likes of Bobrisky were conceived.

“Crossdressers were all over Kano before Bobrisky was conceived;” she wrote on X.

“Bobrisky still has things to learn from the original ones in Kano who don’t need surgery to transform.

Yeah, let’s continue with the hypocrisy and make it a new thing.”
