France captain Kylian Mbappe has decided he wants to only play important games for his country, as he targets winning the Ballon d’Or award in 2025.
Mbappe caused controversy last week, by deciding not to be considered for selection for Les Bleus’ fixtures during the current international break.
This has seen the 25-year-old heavily criticized in the home nation.
Foot Mercato reports Mbappe has asked the France Football Federation not to be invited for “meaningless” international matches.
Mbappe wants to avoid picking up injuries and be able to play as many matches as possible for Real Madrid.
According to him, this will give him the best possible chance of winning his first-ever Ballon d’Or.
His Real Madrid teammate Vinicius Junior will almost certainly take home the award in 2024, but Mbappe already has his mind set on winning in 2025.
