ASUU Gombe State University issues two-week strike notice

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Gombe State University branch, has issued a two-week ultimatum to the state government and the university’s management to address its demands.

In a resolution obtained by DAILY POST, and signed by branch chairman Dr Suleiman Jauro and Dr M. Muhammad, the branch stated that it would consider other legitimate options if its demands are not met.

The congress expressed concern over the economic situation in the state, which has had a significant impact on the well-being of members who are owed salaries.

“The Congress of the Academic Staff Union of Universities Gombe State University chapter, at its congress meeting, held today, March 28, 2024, deliberated extensively on issues affecting the well-being of its members.

“The congress frowned at the failure of the university administration to address the issues affecting the well-being of its members, which is currently affecting the morale of academic staff in the university.

“Morale of staff has been on the decline due to failure of the university to address the welfare issues of staff amidst the socio-economic challenges in the country.” Part of the resolution reads.

The congress pointed out issues such as the non-payment of accumulated Earned Academic Allowance from 2015/2016 to 2023, the non-payment of arrears of 2020, 2021, and 2022 promotions, and other outstanding arrears.

It noted that if these issues are not addressed within the two-week timeframe, the union will consider other legitimate options available to it to pursue its demands.

“The congress unanimously resolved to give the university a time frame of two weeks from today within which to address the above-listed issues.

“If these issues remain unaddressed at the expiration of the timeframe, the union will not hesitate to consider other legitimate options available to it to pursue its demand.” The congress added.
