A man posing as an army recruitment officer has been apprehended in Taraba State.
The arrest was announced via a release made available to journalists on Sunday in Jalingo by the Commandant of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE, OPWS,
Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa.
He said the suspect was attempting to scam aspiring soldiers.
The arrest was said to have been triggered by the Commandant’s visit to the recruitment centre which is located at 114 Battalion, in Jimilari village of Lau local government council of the state.
Assuring the candidates of a fair and transparent recruitment process, the imposter, according to him, was arrested on 22 June, 2024, as he tried to collect money from hopeful recruits, promising them guaranteed entry into the Nigerian Army.
“Our recruitment will be based solely on merit, and we will not tolerate fraudulent activities,” he declared.
He warned candidates not to give money to anyone promising to help them succeed in the recruitment screening.
On the arrest of the imposter, General Uwa commended the vigilance of the troops, emphasizing that the integrity of the recruitment process was a top priority for the Army.
The Commandant, who promised that the arrested suspect would be handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and prosecution, urged all candidates and the public to report any suspicious activities related to the recruitment exercise to the authorities.
