The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kano State has announced that it will closely monitor how the state government utilizes the N3 billion released by the Federal Government to address flood disasters in the state.
Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, Chairman of the party told newsmen in Kano on Sunday that the party will ensure transparency in the use of the funds.
Citing concerns over the alleged diversion of 130 trucks of food allocated to the state for selfish interests, Abbas said the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, government in Kano is frustrating the Federal Government’s efforts to reducing hunger in the state.
He alleged that President Bola Tinubu has approved several palliative measures for poor households and vulnerable individuals, but those assigned to distribute them were diverting the resources.
Abbas cited alleged instances of senior NNPP government officials being involved in the diversion of palliatives.
He alleged that the Managing Director of the State Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO), Dr Tukur Dayyabu Minjibir, was found selling grains belonging to the state government.
Abbas emphasized that the party will not allow a repeat of such incidents, and would ensure that the funds are used for their intended purposes.
He noted that the Federal Government had constituted a committee, led by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibril, to oversee the equal distribution of palliatives in the state.
