Another tragedy struck in Taraba as stranger stabs varsity student

Tragedy has struck again in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, as a student of the state university was reported stabbed in the neck on Friday.

The incident comes barely a day after a secondary school teacher was stabbed to death in the state.

Confirming the report to DAILY POST, the Taraba State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Usman, said the incident occurred today in the university’s mosque.

He said: “On November 10, 2023, at about 9:15 am, information was received from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Sunkani, the administrative headquarters of Ardo-Kola, that one Abdulrashid Ibrahim, a student of the university, was stabbed by a suspect, Abdullahi Babangida Ahmed.”

The victim, according to the police, was a final-year student of the Faculty of Health Science Department of Medical Laboratory at the university. He reportedly met the suspect sleeping inside the university mosque and asked questions about his mission inside the mosque.

An altercation ensued between the two of them, leading to the suspect stabbing the student in the neck with a knife.

Usman confirmed that the victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo, before the arrival of police officers.

“The suspect was arrested and the commissioner of police has ordered a clinical investigation into the case to unravel the motives behind his presence on the university premises,” the PPRO stated.
