The Ondo State Security Network, known as Amotekun Corps, disclosed on Monday that there has been a sudden influx of kidnappers into the state.
The surge of suspected kidnappers in the state had been linked to the heavy presence of security personnel in the neighbouring Ekiti State following the recent killing of two monarchs and the kidnapping of school pupils.
The commander of the Amotekun Corps in Ondo State, Adetunji Adeleye, while parading some suspected criminals in the state at the Corps headquarters, emphasised that the state will not tolerate being a safe haven for criminals.
Adeleye assured residents of the corps determination to ensure the safety of lives and property within the state.
He revealed that no fewer than 43 suspected kidnappers were arrested in various parts of the state in the last one week.
“The astonishing thing about our parade today is the sudden upsurge in the suspects that we have on kidnapping. About half of the 43 are suspected kidnappers that we have reasonable reasons to question.
“I want to trace this to the heavy presence of security personnel in Ekiti, and I want to believe that they are being driven to Ondo State.
“We have risen up to the challenge, and all of them that we have picked up in kidnapping scenes, during kidnapping, and during attempts to kidnap with credible victims around to identify some of them, are the ones we are parading today.”
