Alternative policies for private sector will revive Nigeria’s economy – NECA

The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association, NECA, has urged the Nigerian government to adopt alternative policies that will bring about economic prosperity for the country in the coming years.

The Director-General of NECA, Adewale Oyerinde, disclosed this at a press conference on Friday ahead of its two-day Employers’ summit.

He said the summit, titled ‘Economic Renaissance: Harnessing Government Reforms and Private Sector Agility’, scheduled to be held on June 25-26, 2024, in Abuja will bring together a cross-section of employers to talk on the forward for the Nigerian economy.

“We believe the coming years can be very prosperous for Nigeria. By creating such platforms, we can share perspectives and guide the government through business challenges, leveraging the private sector’s flexibility,” he said.

The development comes amid the national minimum wage debate in Nigeria.

After the conclusion of the National Minimum Wage Tripartite committee meeting, the federal government and the Organised Private Sector agreed on N62,000 as a minimum wage but the organised labour insisted on N250,000, while state governors hinted at N57,000.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his June 12 Democracy Day speech said the government would soon send an executive bill on minimum wage to the National Assembly.

However, the organised labour has insisted that no agreement has been reached.
