Akwa Ibom: NMA Chairman, Vice Chairman Impeached As Temporary Leadership Emerges

PRESS RELEASE ON THE OUTCOME OF THE NMA AKS OGM OF 2ND JUNE 2024

NMA AKS CHAIRMAN DR EMEM ABRAHAM, VICE CHAIRMAN IMPEACHED, SECRETARY APPOINTED ACTING CHAIRMAN.

Following a motion detailing gross misconduct including;

1. Running NMA Akwa Ibom State for 5 months without a budget while expending millions of naira.

2. Presenting to SEC a Financial statement for free medical outreach accounting for only #6M out of #34M.

3. Refusing to abide to constitutional processes and provisions as provided in the NMA National Constitution and NMA AKS Bye-laws.

4. Illegal suspension of ARD President, NAGGMDP Chairman and NMA Secretary.

5. High-handedness and institution of draconian rule in the affairs of NMA.

7. Impersonation of the Secretary in official communication.

8. Presentation of a Financial statement for NMA Creche showing only expenditure of over #6M without showing any income from enrollment and school fees among others.

After a secondment of the motion, the NMA Chairman and Vice Chairman was impeached through a vote of 71 to 4.

Consequently the NMA Secretary, Dr Usenobong Morgan by a motion duly seconded was nominated and accepted by Congress as the Acting Chairman of the NMA. This decision was ratified by a vote of 61 in favour and 13.

I wish to assure all members of NMA to remain calm as the association will make progress democratically and follow the Constitution of NMA to the later in all dealings of the Association.
