Ahead of the local government elections in Akwa Ibom State, the Vice Chairmanship Candidate nominee for Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, Mrs. Naomi Ekarika Frank has been rejected by the Ward Elders, Youth and entire PDP Ete Ward members.
The PDP stalwarts have also called for substitution of the Mrs. Frank.
The rejection of Mrs. Naomi Ekarika Frank’s nomination followed a PDP meeting recently, where the ward elders and youth strongly opposed the candidacy, citing a perceived lack of representation and fairness within the party’s hierarchy.
The heated debate ensued for several hours, with many accusing the Political leadership of failing to consult them before making the nomination.
Some also expressed concerns about the candidate’s political background and leadership qualities.
“The leaders of Ete Ward are very unhappy over the nomination of Noami, she just came back from Kano three weeks ago, she is not a registered member of our party or has she ever worked for the success of our party in elections” an elder who pleaded anonymity for fear of political prosecution.
The uproar has led to growing calls for PDP to reconsider its decision and replace Mrs. Noami with a woman who is a registered member of PDP and must have worked for the success of the party during elections.
A youth leader who also spoke at the meeting said, the decision of the party to file someone who has not been around since 1999 is not giving hope to them as member of the party.
“PDP has been our party since 1999, the youth of Ete ward are very happy with the decision to come the position of the vice chairman to our ward. We are however unhappy that the recipient of this gesture is someone who has not worked for the party before. PDP must reward the loyal members. We urge our leaders Engr. Okoko, House of Representative member Hon. Udoudoh to investigate this complain and substitute Noami to give hope to loyal members of the party”, a popular youth leader who is also the newly elected ward exco but pleaded not to be named said this to our reporter.
