Akwa Ibom Governors’ Cup 2023: Eket football team fans attack referee, match called off (Videos)

There was pandemonium in Eket Int’l Stadium as fans of Eket football team who happend to be the home team led an unprovoked attack on the referee who was officiating the match between Eket and Ibeno football teams.

Eket and Ibeno LGA are neighboring Local Governments who have been submerge in issues of land dispute for years, so it was okay for tensions to fly in a match involving these two rivals in the ongoing Akwa Ibom Governors’ Cup 2023.

Tension started when the center referee allowed a goal which the Eket team protested not to be a goal, and that led to the fracas and abrupt calling off of the match which stood at 1-0 as at when fight broke out and report has it that the referee is currently being hospitalized due to the injuries sustained in the attack.
