Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has ordered the Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, and the Health Commissioner, Prof Augustine Umo, to investigate the attempted murder of a member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in the state.
It would be recalled that an NYSC member posted to St. Theresa Hospital, Use Abat, in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of the state, was on January 2, 2024 attacked by an unknown person who broke into her apartment and asked her to transfer money into his account.
It was gathered that the attacker fled when some patients in the hospital knocked on the NYSC member’s door.
But the governor, in a statement by the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mr Ini Ememobong, on Wednesday ordered an investigation into the incident.
He directed that the CP and the health commissioner to brief him immediately after the investigation.
Parts of the statement read: “In reaction to the news of an allegation of attempted murder of a corps member at the St. Theresa Hospital, Use Abat, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, the Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno has directed the Commissioner of Police and the Honourable Commissioner for Health to undertake an immediate investigation into the matter, and brief him accordingly.
“He assured the citizens of his commitment to the safety and security of the lives and property of citizens and residents in the state.”
