– Begins massive road intervention projects.
The 1,500 seater capacity Eket city hall project, is set for commissioning soonest as work nears 98% completion.
This was disclosed by Eket council chairman, Mr. Akaniyene Tommey, during a project tour with media practitioners from Eket Federal Constituency on Thursday, 23 January, 2025.
Speaking during the tour, the council chairman revealed that the city hall project was initiated by his predecessor, Mr. Frank Archibong, and it is a monumental project that has gulp so much from the local government.
He said that the city hall project is worth the investment as it has the potentials of generating substantial Return on Investment (ROI) to the local government soonest.
He emphasized that the facility is not a conventional event center, but a place where corporate meetings, high standard events, business submits can hold simultaneously in the arena.
Mr. Tommey noted that while the resources invested in the City Hall could fund smaller projects, its long-term benefits outweigh the costs.
He announced plans to empower 500 business owners with a ₦50 million grant during the commissioning event, aimed at boosting the local economy, just like what the Christmas village he initiated did during the festive period.
The media tour also highlighted ongoing road intervention projects across the local government. Roads such as Government Secondary School Road, Afaha Eket Road, Enen Ekpene Road, and Afaha Uqua Road, once impassable, are now undergoing significant remedial work to improve accessibility.
On education, the Chairman also disclosed his resolve to pay bursary after meeting with student leaders next week.
Speaking on the agriculture sector, he mentioned the progress of the demonstration farm and that the local government have concluded plans to expand it to include more produce.
Mr. Tommey reiterated his commitment to leaving Eket better than he met it. He announced that road grading across all wards would soon commence, with councilors overseeing the process.
The expressed gratitude to the Governor for his support and pledged his unwavering loyalty to the administration.
Speaking on behalf of the media forum, the Chairman, Comr. Itoro Etti, praised the Council Chairman for his numerous achievements over the years and pledged the unwavering support of media practitioners throughout his administration.
