Leading COOPA on the assessment tour, the Chancellor, Mr. Utitofon Morgan said the community based initiative is an avenue to assess the level of progress of each Council as well as strengthen relationship between COOPA and Local Government Councils.

The Chairman of Eastern Obolo Council, Samuel Nteogwuijah who received the team, disclosed plans to revisit the permanent Secretariat of the Local Government Council which has been abandoned since 1999.

Samuel Nteogwuijah said construction of the permanent Secretariat has been captured as a capital project in the Council’s 2025 budget recently passed.

Noting that the project is made up of 72 office spaces and a conference hall, Nteogwuijah said it was necessary to bring the project back to life amidst other projects.

The Chairman has also built a compassionate home for a destitute indigene. The home is at about 75 percent completion, while two solar-powered water boreholes sited at Iko Town and Okoroiti respectively, have been completed and awaiting commissioning.

Meanwhile, the Chairman has appreciated Governor Umo Eno for his swift intervention in the cholera outbreak that hit some areas of the Local Government recently.

He noted that while the Local Government had taken measures to curb the outbreak, the Governor delegated health officials from the Ministry of Health to handle the outbreak, ensuring that patients were transferred to the Emmanuel General Hospital, Eket for treatment.

To also curb other health issues, Samuel Nteogwuijah has built public latrines to stem off open defecation hence, ensuring that citizens and residents of the area are not exposed to severe health hazards.

Other developmental projects undertaken by the current administration include institution of educational grants to 100 indigent students while a second batch is underway.
