In yet another devastating turn of events, two farmers have been killed on their farmlands in the Yangtu Special Development Area in southern Taraba State.
The brutal incident, which is presently sending shockwaves through the community, happened in the early hours of Tuesday.
Former representative of Ussa Local Government Area, Habila Timothy, confirmed the distressing news in a sombre telephone interview with DAILY POST.
The victims, from Kpambo village in Ussa, had ventured to their farmlands in Kwambai, a border town between the local government and the development area when they were attacked.
“As I speak to you, my people are in total disarray and lack direction. Women and children are crying, and it will soon be night,” Timothy lamented.
He stressed the urgent need for assistance to restore peace, expressing concerns about the safety of evacuation routes.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, Abdullahi Usman, said in a telephone interview with DAILY POST that the report had not yet reached the desk of the divisional police officer in Yangtu.
Nonetheless, he assured the public that measures are underway to eliminate the menace of bandits in the state.
The tragic incident comes barely two days after the gruesome murder of 11 farmers in the same special development area of the state.
The relentless assaults, according to sources from the community who spoke with DAILY POST, have forced residents to flee, leaving the affected area desolate as farming activities, schools, and social interactions ground to a halt.
DAILY POST learnt some affected residents have sought refuge in makeshift shelters located in Yangtu Special Development Area as well as in Ussa and Takum local government areas.
