A former Super Eagles goalkeeper and media officer, Idah Peterside, has said that Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has been warned against returning to South Africa.
He said this after the Super Eagles beat South Africa 4-2 on penalties in the semifinal of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Nwabali saved two penalties as Nigeria defeated South Africa to move to the final where they will lock horns with the Elephants of Ivory Coast in Sunday’s showpiece at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Abidjan.

“We have not gotten some messages where people are sending messages to the goalkeeper threatening him. I heard some people were telling him, don’t come back to South Africa since you don’t want us to score payback when your team is playing,” he said in a viral video shared on X. (Sic).
“This is unacceptable. We have not heard of any violence but just threats. They have been threatening him and some people.”
