Nigeria coach, José Peseiro, has reminded his team that the South African Bafana Bafana defeated the likes of Morocco to get to the semifinals of the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.
For this reason, Peseiro said it was important that his team shows no concern about being the favourites ahead of Wednesday’s clash.
Nigeria has defied all odds to reach this stage of the competition and is arguably the strongest side of the teams left in Ivory Coast.
But Peseiro at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, said the Nigerian boys are not concerned about being favourites to win the semifinal game.
“They know they are going to play against a good team, put Morocco, one of the favourites out 2-0,” Peseiro told reporters.
“We know the power of the opponent, we know they want to win like us, they have confidence, they have good organization, they want to win the AFCON like us but my importance is our team.
“We want to play a good match, create opportunities, prevent the opponent from creating opportunities, only that.
“Favorite is not in our heads. If it enters our head, it will fly, you understand. We want to put our feet on the ground.”
