AFCON 2025 qualifier: Okoye wants to be back as Super Eagles number one

Maduka Okoye has declared that he will fight hard to reclaim the Super Eagles number one goalkeeping position.

Okoye was Super Eagles’ first choice goalkeeper at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The 25-year-old however lost his place in the team after committing a blunder in the Super Eagles Round of 16 clash against Tunisia.

The Udinese shot stopper was overlooked for around two years before earning a recall into team.

Okoye has now said he wishes to reclaim the No 1 jersey.

“Yeah of course this is what I want, but Stanley (Nwabali) set a high point with a great AFCON, so I’m just patiently waiting, and trying to do my best in training and impress the staff as much as possible,” he told Football Temple.
