AFCON 2023: Two Super Eagles players criticised ahead Ivory Coast clash

Italian pundit Gabriele Marcotti has criticised two Super Eagles players, Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze, ahead of Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, clash with Ivory Coast on Thursday.

Marcotti said both Osimhen and Chukwueze could have scored three goals each against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday.

DAILY POST recalls that Osimhen missed at least two good chances to score the winning goal against Equatorial Guinea.

The match eventually ended in a 1-1 draw, thanks to goals from Iban Salvador and Osimhen.

Speaking on ESPN’s The Gab & Juls Show, Marcotti said: “I thought Nigeria had a bunch of chances [against Equatorial Guinea]. Osimhen could have had a hat-trick, and Chukwueze as well when he came on.

“I’m not so concerned about this; it would have been nice to beat them since people have a lot of doubts about Nigeria, but I can live with this; just turn it on in the next game.”

Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea have one point each and are behind leaders Ivory Coast.
