Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana has decided to play against Tottenham Hotspur and will miss the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations opener against Guinea.
According to iNews, the Manchester United stopper is adamant about playing for the Red Devils on Sunday.
It is understood that this decision has been approved by the Cameroonian Football Federation president, Samuel Eto’o.
Onana will take a flight to Ivory Coast to join the national squad less than 24 hours before their tournament opener.
But it is unlikely that he would be picked for the Indomitable Lions’ starting lineup.
“Andre is committed to playing for his country, he would not be there if he wasn’t. But United is the priority for him. For the second match against Senegal, they will be favourites; if Cameroon were to lose the first match to Guinea, should he really have to play versus Senegal if they are just going to lose anyway?” a source said.
