Mauritania goalkeeper, Babacar Niasse says the team’s shocking win against Algeria was down to teamwork.
The tiny nation defeated the two-time champions 1-0 in Bouake on Tuesday night.
It was Mauritania’s maiden win in the history of AFCON and one which ensured their qualification to the Round of 16.
Niasse played a crucial role in the win, pulling a number of impressive saves to deny the Desert Foxes.
The lanky shot-stopper was named Man of the Match after the game.
“I am very proud to have this trophy, I think this is collective for us, this for all of us even though I have the trophy but it is for all of us because we prepared this together,” he told CAFonline.
“I was extremely proud also, I would like to thank Mauritania for giving me this opportunity, I am very proud to represent my country.”
